Different suburbs, different houses
The house matters more than the postcode. A drafty timber villa in Roslyn or the central city loses heat fast, so it needs more grunt from the unit and often a spot chosen to push warm air through the whole room, not just one corner.
Newer builds on the coast and out on the Taieri are better sealed, so a smaller unit usually does the job. Coastal homes near St Clair and Brighton also cop salt air, so we pick units that hold up outside. On the hills, wind and the angle of the section change where the outdoor unit goes. We work all that out on site before we quote.
Sizing for a cold, damp Dunedin winter
Dunedin winters are cold and damp, with hard frosts and southerlies coming straight off the Southern Ocean. A heat pump that's too small will run flat out on a frosty morning and still leave you cold, so getting the size right is the whole game.
